Why does the author feel the need to put "wacky" in the title? The wing in question looks very normal, and the range of 200 miles in fact quite reasonable for an early test model.

Seriously, though, this is a very smart idea. You can pitch the props different for the different parts of the wing, you can even have some of the motors turn off entirely and have the prop feather away. Being able to use different power levels means the wings will be MUCH more difficult to stall.

This idea has been thoroughly discussed on some of the airplane forums I read, and the consensus is that if they can work out the power problem (same problem we face with EVs), then this will work out really well.
