The electric vehicle, engineered and built in a Clarkson workshop, could break as many as eight world records in the coming months. Top EV Racing founder Michael Fragomeni said he and his team had set out to push electric, solar-powered vehicles to the limit, breaking misconceived stigmas of electric cars along the way. “We wanted to push electric vehicles to the limit of physics and the limit of technology,” he said. “We are using the drag racing platform to do so, utilising their prepared track surface and really precise timing equipment. “It’s exciting, the stigma is apparent and I cross it all the time, but after a few test runs, we’ll get it up to speed and break a few world records.” Mr Fragomeni said the development in solar technology over the past few decades had made his dream a possibility. “Solar technology in the last decade or two has got better and better, and power outputs are getting better by the year; it’s a great way to fuel the car for free and have much less impact on the environment. “There are eight world records that we’ve got our eyes on, but our ultimate goal is to become the quickest and fastest wheel-driven vehicle. “We’re not going to get there for a couple of years or more, but it’s definitely the ultimate goal.” The 10-metre ‘Arc’d Up’ vehicle will subject the driver to more than seven Gs of force during acceleration; twice that of a space shuttle take-off. Mr Fragomeni said he would have another level of appreciation for the vehicle when he sits behind the wheel before taking off. “I really couldn’t send anyone else down the track in something that I’ve engineered and we’ve built, something that’s pushing the boundaries,” he said. “It’s a team effort and with our sponsors, it will be exciting and satisfying to get the performance out of this vehicle.” Top EV racing will unveil the vehicle in the next two months.
