A little explanation may be in order here. The EVDL server's spam filter intercepted a G+ invitation sent in Michael Ross's name. It was sent to [email protected], but because of the filter It did not reach the list.
I sent Michael an informational note, in case he didn't realize that G+ had sent out at least one invitation in his name. (It seemed pretty unlikely that he had deliberately invited the entire EVDL to join G+.) Michael says he doesn't know how this happened. I don't either. I would hate to think that G+ has adopted the trick used by Linked In, Facebook, and other social media services. They ask permission to mine your computer for email addresses to invite (spam) to join the service. The "request for permission" is usually subtly displayed, and the pre-checked default answer is "yes." Many people don't notice or realize that they are allowing the social media service to spam all their friends in their names. I know that "don't be evil" Google wants users for G+, but I hope they haven't resorted to this subterfuge. If they have, and your personal email address was in Michael's email directory or he has emails he traded privately with you sometime in th past, it's possible that you'll receive a G+ invitation at that address. (Maybe that's even something that you actually want.) However, you should not receive one through the EVDL. Sorry for the interruption. I hope this explains the odd off topic thread.
