French firm Ez-Wheel has managed to pack an entire electric vehicle system
into a wheel – battery, charger, converter and motor included. Nothing
electrical need be fitted to the vehicle chassis. 

Intended to add powered traction to industrial trolleys, application are
also proposed moving patients in hospitals and shifting food. 

“Ez-Wheel products are ready to operate in outdoor or indoor conditions,
over an extended temperature range. All the components including the battery
are designed to withstand 5 years of operation without any maintenance
required,” said the firm. 

The French Environmental Technologies Fund, managed by Bpifrance on behalf
of the State, has just made its seventh investment with Ez-Wheel, adding
€2.5m to its coffers to support the commercial development of the company. 

This was carried out through a capital increase for a total of 5.3m,
alongside investors: Robolution 1 Capital, Ecomobilité Ventures,
Poitou-Charentes Innovation and funds managed by Alto Invest and
Charente-Périgord Expansion. 

“With over a thousand of such wheels sold, ez-Wheel is entering a new phase
of faster international development,” said Ez-Wheel, which was founded by
three engineers in 2009 in Angoulême between Bordeaux and La Rochelle.
