If you still have some grass as part of your landscaping, the South Coast
Air Quality Management District has non-polluting electric lawn
mowers…cheap!

SCAQMD Residents can now learn if they qualify and pre-register for the 2015
Lawn Mower Exchange Program.

We have an opportunity to exchange an old, operable gasoline-powered lawn
mower and purchase, at a discounted rate, a new electric lawnmower. This
year, we have six models from which to choose from, with our cost being from
$100 to $250 depending on the model we choose.

Pre-registration is required! There are six exchange locations scheduled
from Long Beach to Arcadia. Visit the website www.aqmd.gov for registration
and location information.

OVERVIEW
LAWN MOWER
LEAF BLOWER
OVERVIEW

SCAQMD has two annual programs that help clean the air through the exchange
of lawn and garden equipment:
In the spring, residents can turn in an old, operable gasoline-powered lawn
mower and purchase a new cordless electric lawnmower that produces zero
emissions at reduced cost.

In the summer or fall, commercial landscapers and gardeners operating with
the South Coast Air Basin can exchange old, noisy, high-polluting backpack
leaf blowers for new backpack blowers that have significantly reduced
emission and noise levels.

An older gas-powered lawn mower can spew more pollution into the air in a
single year than a car driven more than 22,000 miles. All the gas mowers and
leaf blowers that are turned in for this program are scrapped and the metal
recycled. To date, SCAQMD has scrapped more than 55,000 highly polluting
gasoline mowers, removing almost 114 tons of smog-forming pollutants from
the Southland’s air. Similarly, the total number of old, polluting leaf
blowers that have been scrapped exceeds 10,000.
