This month marks the first anniversary of the launch of the BMW i3 in the
US. The first car went to Boston resident, Charles Rabie on May 2nd, 2015,
the second, to our very own New Jersey resident, Pamela Thwaite, a.k.a.
ElectraGirl and fellow New Jersey Resident Eddie Bortell.

The cars had arrived at port in the US earlier in the month with the first
deliveries starting on May 3rd, 2015. Last minute issues over the Monroney
sticker on the models with range extenders installed, delayed their delivery
by nearly a month until May 2ist, with another New Jersey resident, Tom
Moloughney taking first delivery of that model.

The i3 was born to be a city car, indeed, its prototype was named the
Mega-City car however, many owners have taken to the car as their primary
vehicle pushing milages far beyond city limits. Aided by the gasoline
range-extender, Tom Moloughney drove his up to Vermont, a total of 462 miles
there and back.

One year on and BMW have sold more than 20,000 examples globally of this
clean-sheet interpretation of what the electric car should look like for a
city environment. To celebrate, a few members of the i3 Facebook group –
that started life with the first orders in 2013 – gathered together to plan
an anniversary, BMW were invited and before long the event turned into a
nationwide celebration with dealers across the US participating. Those that
did, offered t-shirts and badges to attendees as well as raffling JuiceBox
Pro 40 EVSEs.
