Tesla Model S P85 driving 200 km/h, 125 mph for 12 minutes on German
autobahn

Another video where I drive and talk. The autobahn stretch was 40 km which I
covered in 12 minutes averaging 200 km/h or 125 mph. Consumption was 520
Wh/km (840 Wh/mi).

As you probably figured out by now, we're talking about a Tesla Model S P85
whose owner was craving for some highway speeding action. Of course, he
couldn't get such thrills in Norway where fines are unforgiving, so he chose
the German autobahn as a playground.

There are lots of things you can do with a Tesla Model S. For example, you
can run a Samsung Galaxy S6 over multiple times, or you can get struck by
lighting while using a Supercharger station. But the 'bravest' drivers take
their Tesla on the highway, where they test the limit of the car.

One such example is Bjørn Nyland, a Tesla Model S P 85 owner who took his
all-electric sedan on the German autobahn and kept the accelerator down for
12 minutes. Given the type of traffic that's usually found on Germany's
highways, we consider him lucky for having so much space to keep a constant
speed of 125 mph (201 km/h).

According to his own words, "the autobahn stretch was 40 km (24 miles) which
I covered in 12 minutes averaging 200 km/h or 125 mph. Consumption was 520
Wh/km (840 Wh/mi)".

As you watch the video, please note the car's lightning-fast acceleration
and how fast the battery is deprived of energy. Also, try doing that in the
first part of the video, as the second half si all about blurred and shaky
images to the high speed. Furthermore, we're not sure the car is comfortable
with this type of over-the-limit behavior since it wasn't built for such
highway raids.

Model S Driven At 125 mph For 12 Minutes On Autobahn – Video
by Jeff Cobb June 4, 2015

Tesla’s Model S is the highest rated range EV on the road, but in Germany
Tesla owning enthusiast Bjørn Nyland cruised for 25 miles at 125 mph to
demonstrate how much more energy it has potential to consume under heavier
use.

“The autobahn stretch was 40 km (25 miles) which I covered in 12 minutes
averaging 200 km/h or 125 mph. Consumption was 520 Wh/km (840 Wh/mi),” he
said.

The 25-mile (40 km) trip ends at the German-Danish border where speed limits
drop to 100 km/h (62 mph).

The Model S is a single-speed vehicle and does not benefit from a
multi-speed transmission which lowers motor operating rpm at speed.

For U.S. drivers traveling slower this matters less, and with Superchargers
enabling free fill ups, it may not be a worry for Nyland either.

Note the car’s state of charge meter before and after as it drops by more
than 100 indicated kilometers during the high-speed highway drive.

Fast starts, heavy foot and drivng the car fast without preconditioning the
battery in cold also contribute to inordinate consumption.
