Does it have a Top Gear? Chris Evans traded his customary four wheels for a
significantly more environmentally friendly two ahead of an appearance in
trendy Notting Hill, west London on Wednesday

He's the new Top Gear host, but car enthusiast Chris Evans' latest outing
would no doubt have outgoing Jeremy Clarkson despairing over his dashboard.

The 49-year-old presenter traded his customary four wheels for a
significantly more environmentally friendly two ahead of an appearance in
trendy Notting Hill, west London on Wednesday.

Sporting a safety helmet and sunglasses, Chris was hard to miss on his
electric powered bike following a shopping trip in the capital.

With a plastic bag hanging from either handlebar, the TV personality
appeared to be in high spirits cycled past onlookers - and little wonder.

Indeed the ginger haired DJ is set to present a new series of TFI Friday
despite his new job as host of Top Gear.

He will make eight episodes of the chat show, which was a hit in the
Nineties before being resurrected earlier this month for what was said to be
a one-off special.

Channel 4 has announced that the programme is to return for a full series,
likely to be broadcast around November and December.

However, the resurrection of the show could cause tensions with the BBC -
because it comes just a week after Evans was given the job of hosting Top
Gear following Jeremy Clarkson's sacking.

After being appointed as Clarkson's replacement, Evans announced that he
would be giving up his position as co-host of The One Show on Friday
evenings.

But the star will have to juggle the two commitments, as well as his daily
breakfast show on BBC Radio 2.

TFI Friday originally ran from 1996 to 2000, and became known as a
free-wheeling, anarchic programme which helped to revolutionise the chat
show format.

This year, it was announced that the show - which is filmed live - would
return for a special edition presented by Evans and produced by his
long-term collaborator Will Macdonald.

The reunion edition, featuring guests such as Clarkson, Lewis Hamilton and
Tom Daley, pulled in an audience of 3.35million on June 12.

HE MAY be the new Top Gear host, but Chris Evans chose to swap four wheels
for two as he ran some errands in London this week.

No doubt former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson would have a thing or two
to say about his choice of transport, but Chris seemed more than happy with
his electric powered bicycle as he rode through the streets of Notting Hill.

Placing two rather large shopping bags over his handlebars, the 49-year-old
looked perfectly balanced as he made his way through the trendy area of the
capital, failing to raise a smile for photographers.

The host clearly attempted to go incognito in a pair of sunglasses, a helmet
and a casual hooded jacket. However, it didn't take long for paps and
onlookers to notice him.

Chris better get used to riding slightly bigger vehicles at some point
though, as he was FINALLY confirmed as the new Top Gear host earlier this
month.

After the news broke, Chris took to Twitter to praise his predecessors and
reassure his fans he would be continuing with his popular breakfast show.

"First tweet as new Top Gear host. I would like to say Jeremy, Richard &
James are the greatest. And NO I'm not leaving the R2 Breakfast Show," he
wrote.

The Radio 2 star – who has signed a three-year deal to lead an all-new
line-up on the show – said he was "thrilled" to be taking Top Gear forward.

In a statement he added: "I’m thrilled, Top Gear is my favourite programme
of all time. Created by a host of brilliant minds who love cars and
understand how to make the massively complicated come across as fun,
devil-may-care and effortless."

He continued: "When in fact of course, it's anything but and that's the
genius of Top Gear's global success.

"I promise I will do everything I possibly can to respect what has gone on
before and take the show forward."

Kim Shillinglaw, Controller, BBC Two and BBC Four, also said: "I am so
delighted that Chris will be presenting the next series of Top Gear.

"His knowledge of and passion for cars are well-known and combined with his
sheer inventiveness and cheeky unpredictability he is the perfect choice to
take our much-loved show into the future."

Kim continued: "Chris is a huge fan of Top Gear and has great respect for
the craft and work ethic of one of the best production teams in the world.

"He knows the phenomenal attention to detail it takes to make a single
sequence of Top Gear, let alone a whole series.

"He is already full of brilliant ideas and I can't wait for him to get
started."

Production on the new series of Top Gear will start in the next few weeks
and more information will be announced in due course.
