[image flash (map) ] A study by the Center for Sustainable Energy near San Diego says that the area around Silicon Valley has the highest number of electric cars per capita in the United States. There are 7 electric cars there for every 1000 cars registered. That’s not surprising. Silicon Valley is home to Apple, Google, Tesla Motors and hundreds of other tech companies – companies where promoting disruptive technology and saving the world are a way of life. Average income in the area is also significantly higher than average. California, with its aggressive Zero Emissions policies and generous incentives for alternative fuel vehicles, has 30% of all electric cars in the US. The areas around San Francisco and Los Angeles have the highest percentage of electric car ownership in the state, according to the study. There are still only 300,000 electric cars on the road in America, despite President Obama’s pledge to have over a million by the end of 2015. High prices and the absence of available charging stations for electric car owners not fortunate enough to own a Tesla have conspired to keep sales far less than officials had hoped for.
