Find a progressive condo association that will welcome electric car
Sept. 5, 2015 By Ryan Poliakoff - Special to The Palm Beach Post

This week, we celebrate our 250th column! Thank you to everyone for your
interest and readership. I’m sorry I can answer only a small fraction of
your emails, but your questions are still greatly appreciated.

Question: I presently own an electric car and eventually would like to move
to a condominium.

I have been told that condominium restrictions generally prohibit electric
cars owned by residents. Any suggestions? — M.R.

Answer: I have yet to encounter a [FL] condominium restriction limiting
electric cars, per se. I know of many condominiums that are actively
enabling their owners to purchase electric cars by installing outlets in the
garage. In many cases, the owner pays for the installation of the electrical
outlet, and also a monthly fee to approximate the cost of the electricity
being used. This is particularly true in high-end condominiums, where Teslas
are de rigueur, and widely owned.

I would not write off condominiums, in general, because of a perceived bias
against electric cars. Every building is different, and you can easily find
progressive properties that happily facilitate electric car ownership.
