That pattern definitely holds for me.  I had never paid more than $16K for a 
car before I bought the Tesla.  I bought a new Mazda 626 in 1985.  Every other 
car since was well used.  Usually over 100K miles.  I have a very good 
relationship with an independent auto shop.  Knowing all my vehicles for the 
past 30 years, they almost fell on the floor when they saw the Tesla.  (It was 
also purchased used, as a demo with 11K miles.  Since it was never registered, 
it counts as a new car for the Federal tax credit.)

I test drove a Tesla two years ago.  At that time, I told myself that it would 
be my next car.  The driving experience is that unique.
