Step aside fuel cars, an Electric Vehicle Celebration will be taking over Long Beach for National Drive Electric Week. The free event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on Sept. 12 at Houghton Park Community Center, 6301 Myrtle Ave. The celebration also will feature electric bicycles, motorcycles, an electric one wheeler and home and commercial yard equipment. Congressman Alan Lowenthal, Congresswoman Janice Hahn, state Senator Ricardo Lara, and Ninth District City Councilman Rex Richardson will speak on the importance of electric vehicles and their impact on our air quality. Environmental groups and advocates of zero emission electric transportation are hosting the event. These events will be taking place across the country as well. The event is organized by the Sierra Club, Plug in America, Electric Auto Association, TeslaClubLA, OC Tesla and Coalition for a Safe Environment and Southern California Association of Electric Vehicles. Surfriders, Children’s Day and El Dorado Audubon also endorse the event.
