That sounds exactly right.
My truck does a litle over 1/2 kWh per mile at minimum freeway speed due
to
Wider than standard tires, thick oil and most importantly, the
energy-robbing
Automatic transmission. Similar light trucks that I have seen and driven
had
Lower kWh per mile numbers (closer to 400Wh/mi) while a continuous 55
MPH
Could be maintained with only 15kW of power, which gives you an absolute
Minimum energy requirement of 15/55 = 272 Wh/mi but this is not taking
realistic
Driving conditions into account, so I will stick with a more realistic
worst case
Of 1/2 kWh per mile for a light truck that in ICE version achieves 20-25
MPG.
Since your 40 ton truck achieves 5-6 times higher consumption (4.2 MPG)
the
Expected electric energy consumption can be expected to be 2.5 - 3 kWh
per mile.
For a 200 mile range, you are looking at between 500 and 600 kWh of
batteries,
Exactly like you calculated.

Cor.

Subject: [EVDL] Battery size for a 40 ton 18 wheel truck with a 200+
milerange

I'm trying to determine the battery size for an 18 wheel (40 ton) truck
with a 200+ mile range. There is a 20 ton bus (see:
http://www.byd.com/na/auto/40feet.html ) with a range of >155 miles
and a battery size of 324 kWh. So, for 210 miles that would be about
463 kWh.

According to a graph (figure 7) in:

http://www.goodyeartrucktires.com/pdf/resources/service-manual/Retread_S
9_V.pdf
the MPG declines from 5 to about 4.2 when the weight goes from 20 tons
to 40 tons, so I would estimate that the truck would need about a 550
kWh battery.

Does that sound reasonable, or am I missing something?

Thanks,
