I was advised that an isolator was needed. An appointment was made for Scottish Power, my supplier, to come to perform what it said was a free installation. The person fitting the charger agreed to come the same afternoon. Scottish Power’s representative did not arrive in spite of a telephone inquiry to confirm attendance. The other party had a wasted journey. There was still no explanation nor apology from Scottish Power when a second appointment was made and confirmed. Again Scottish Power did not come. -RP, Kent [UK] You were having a connecting point put outside the house to power the electric car through the domestic supply. You are 82 and rely on the vehicle for shopping and medical appointments. A month went by and, having heard nothing, you contacted Scottish Power again. This time it advised that it did not install isolator switches. You therefore arranged for a local electrician to do the work. His bill was £689 while you had understood Scottish Power’s service would be free and that, had it done the work, a new electrical control unit would have been unnecessary. • 'Scottish Power won’t listen to me' [ http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/money-saving-tips/jessicainvestigates/11904051/Scottish-Power-wont-listen-to-me.html ] • 'Why has my £1,305 credit disappeared, Scottish Power?' [ http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/money-saving-tips/jessicainvestigates/11841196/Why-has-my-1305-credit-disappeared-Scottish-Power.html ] Scottish Power offered only £22 for each of the missed appointments. You refused this and the matter was deadlocked. I approached Scottish Power and it said its electrician could have done the work on the isolator switch. It is sorry it told you otherwise. However, it says the costs for a new control unit or any work to the internal wiring are not its responsibility. It is paying £149 for the isolator switch and associated labour costs. It is also giving £100 for goodwill.
