Magneto Electric Skateboard

[5of5-stars]
After testing various electric Skateboards in the market and owning a $2000
well known board, all the board's I have tested are priced over the $1200
mark, I decided to test a board that is in the lower end in terms of price.
My fingers took a wonder on my keyboard and I came across a board called the
Magneto, which is seemingly a brand growing in popularity, as the company
are having trouble keeping up with the demand at the moment.

Magneto is a company based in London and after a conversation with their
director, I believe they ship more or less worldwide and are planning to
set-up in the states at some point next year too. To be honest, on the
surface I can see why they have sold out. The Magneto is priced around $600,
it looks really slick in the pictures and the spec on paper is better in
some cases than the $1200 boards I have tested. Where's the catch? It comes
with a great speed of 30KPH, 25KM range, 2-3 hours’ charge time and weighing
6KG.

As per their website magnetoelectricskateboard.com, the Magneto slogan is:
Made for the people, I think that's them saying the other electric
skateboards are out of touch with the target audience due to being;
essentially unaffordable to the people that really want one. Magneto claims
they have made a high performing electric skateboard that almost anyone can
afford to own. I've always had a saying; if it seems too good to be true it
probably is; and The Magneto seems too good to be true.

I ordered my Magneto. 8:00 AM the very next morning the Magneto arrived, the
packaging is quite plain and the company do not give much away, after
eagerly unwrapping the board and staring at it excitedly for a few minutes,
I plugged it in and headed out for a few hours, leaving the Magneto to
charge. I got home unplugged the Magneto and had a good look at it for the
first time; this thing is solid, big solid wheels and trucks, a rock hard
Canadian maple deck. It really doesn't look like these guys have cut in
corners in terms of the materials they've used; the only thing I noticed is
that the controller seemed a bit brittle.

The Test ride:
I'm a pretty confident rider, so I slung open my front door jumped on the
Magneto and cranked it. Immediately I caught myself smiling, this thing
rides really well. It sticks to the road like glue, carves incredible and
the top speed of 20 mph although its fast, it feels safe and it's enough!
the brakes took a little getting used to admittedly, it seemed quite
difficult to get the braking just right, however once I got used to it, I
found it really fun!

The Magneto generally performed well in all areas, to be honest it performed
better in some areas than the other premium priced boards I have tested, the
stability and handling on the Magneto is just superb.

Conclusion:
I had a great day out on this board and find myself eating my words (if it
seems too good to be true it probably is). I really couldn't see the
downside of this board; I kept looking and couldn't find one! It rides a
little different to the other boards and in some places it seemed a little
quirky at first like the braking, however, it actually grew on me. Magneto:
has made a really solid, fun board that is delivering the same specs as
boards twice the price. These guys have done a really great job with this,
making electric skateboarding/longboarding more accessible to everyone.

There really is nothing wrong with this board, the only negative point I
would say is the controller feels like if it took a good hit, it would be
wrecked, but Magneto sell these for like $60. I would like to rate different
features at: Speed: 9/10; Handling: 10/10; Durability: 7/10 (would be 10 if
it wasn't for the remote, the board itself is rock solid); Braking: 8/10;
Portability: 8/10 and Affordability: 10/10.

After a little deliberating, I came up with an analogy for the Magneto
compared to my $2000 board. Admittedly I believe my $2000 board is the
Ferrari of Electric skateboards, however If the Magneto was a car it's the
equivalent of a souped up Mustang, a lot less expensive it performs almost
just as well, parts are cheap and easy to fit and isn't really lacking any
area. The Magneto knows what it is and it does it well.
