In a formation like a fighter squadron the Twizy arrived on the Isle of
Wight yesterday. The two seaters are pretty distinctive – Seen one yet?

If you happen to notice a small, strange looking vehicle driving on Isle of
Wight roads from today, chances are it’s a Twizy.

14 of zero-carbon emission electric cars made their way across the Solent
yesterday (Tuesday) as a new car hire company set up in Cowes.

The nippy little electric vehicles seat two people, can reach a top speed of
50mph and travel for up to 62 miles on one charge.

Members of Red Funnel staff including customer services director Murray
Carter, along with volunteers drove on and off the Red Funnel ferry.

Red Funnel and Hire A Twizy have teamed up to deliver a convoy of Twizys to
the Isle of Wight, where they will be available for hire to visitors and
residents alike.

Members of Red Funnel staff including customer services director Murray
Carter, along with Hire A Twizy volunteers recruited via their Facebook
page, drove 14 of the zero carbon emission electric cars on and off the Red
Funnel ferry as they were delivered to the Island on Tuesday.

The Twizys are the perfect companion for environmentally conscious tourists
who want to see every corner of the Island, as well as those visiting on
business. The nippy electric vehicles seat two, can reach a top speed of
50mph and travel for up to 62 miles on one charge. Visitors will even find
they can park their funky Twizy for free in many of the Island’s car parks.

Hire a Twizy car hire will be available from only £49 per day and will
shortly be operating from West Cowes, ideal for users of Red Funnel’s
Hi-Speed foot passenger Red Jet service.

In the new year, customers will also be able to book a package deal with Red
Funnel inclusive of Red Jet day return for two plus a day’s Twizy hire,
offering even better value and added convenience. Plans to add East Cowes to
Hire A Twizy’s locations are also being worked on.

Chris Beach, managing director of Hire A Twizy, said:

“Hire A Twizy has already proved really popular in the New Forest since
it launched in March 2015, saving tourists money and helping to reduce their
carbon footprints. Visitors told us what a different way it is to see the
forest.

“We’re very excited about bringing the Twizys to the Isle of Wight. I
believe this is the ideal way to get around the Island.”

Tom Madge, head of marketing at Red Funnel, said:

“Hiring a Twizy to explore our Island is a fun and cost effective option
for visitors and we are delighted to help deliver this environmentally
friendly offering to the tourism industry on the Isle of Wight. The electric
cars will allow even the greenest of tourists to explore everything our
Island has to offer in a unique way.

“We’re also pleased to be working with Hire A Twizy to deliver package
deals to add extra value and convenience for customers. The Twizys will also
be of benefit to Isle of Wight residents as an alternative mode of transport
for getting around the Island.”
