That news item Steven posted I passed on, same as I did:
http://www.technobuffalo.com/2016/01/06/chevy-bolt-2017-unveiled/
2017 Chevy Bolt unveiled — The everyman’s electric car
January 6, 2016

There had been so-much newswire PR from CES on this (every media outlet had
a piece on the pre-Bolt) I thought the topic was saturated and there was
little more informational-meat to be had (hopefully more later).

Also GM was throwing around "every man’s" a lot which made it's use sound
trite. GM has used that slogan many times in the past (as far back as 1941),
see

So what makes this EV so great?
Is it the 0 to 60mph in 7 seconds? Here is a list of vehicles that can also
do that, see
http://www.autosnout.com/0-60-Times/0-60mph-in-less-than-7-seconds.php

Is it the $30k price where others are touting 200 mile range at ~$33k?
GM's will be only $30k after the incentives, otherwise it will be $37k.

Is it the added roominess that GM put into the Sonic platform/pinnings?
Perhaps, but that will be much more important to what GM is planning for> to
be a Uber,Lyft EV, see
http://electric-vehicle-discussion-list.413529.n4.nabble.com/EVLN-5B-hedge-bet-you-ll-Uber-an-auton-GM-EV-for-a-Lyft-than-buy1-tp4679573.html
EVLN: $.5B hedge bet> you'll Uber an auton GM EV for a Lyft, than buy1

But after reading the responses to Wired piece, I read it. Considering that
most media writers spew opinion rather than information, this piece was
useful, and I thank Steven for posting it.

So much so, I pulled down the text and links, waded through to find the
words that nabble thought was [s pam], and posted it on the EVLN page of the
evdl nabble archive. So, encase you (are outside the U.S. and) could not
access that URL, or have a low-bandwidth connection, it is there as a
historical record for all to view, see

EVLN: Barra's Baby Wants 1st To $30k 200mi EV Market ts:0-60mph:7s (v)

Sure the Wired piece does miss several important points of how much of a
Bad-Boy Automotive-Bully GM (still) is (they have done so many, many bad
things). I liken GM's efforts to be a better company like the charitable
efforts of Capone trying to better his public image
https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=charities+al+capone

Does this mean I would never buy a GM product (as was posted by some on the
evdl)? No. I considered this when I chose a Chevy S-10 Blazer as my donor
vehicle for conversion way back in 1990. You have to understand, more of a
priority for me was and is today: ?Does the vehicle fit my needs?
Of course, it will not stop me from complaining what bad things GM has and
is doing ...

The Wired piece does not qualify some opinionated points (like why there
were so few wanting the EV1 - because GM limited that, and that GM wanted it
to be a failure, hence why GM had high powered/paid lawyers fighting/kicking
the teeth out of CARB, +much more).

But over all, I would say that Wired piece is worthy of a thorough read (see
EVLN URL above). It touches on some of the political infighting that GM
still has. And it mentions Barra worked hard on the Volt pih, and now the
pre-Bolt (its not released yet), she has a very long fight at GM to keep
them on track to achieve her goals.

There were several news items in the past about Barra, a couple of which I
posted to the evdl archive, see

There's a new hand on the wheel steering GM
Dec 11, 2013

She is a die-hard GM lifer, and sweats petrol like the guy mentioned in the
Wired piece. But the PR shots of her I've seen, make me think her feet must
be killing her wearing those tall heels. IMO her wearing comfortable shoes
would have been a better image for the new GM (out with the stodgy old
school ways, in with the sensible ones)
