The U.S. Department of the Navy has issued a solicitation to lease hundreds of electric vehicles (EVs) to be deployed at various Navy and Marine Corps sites in California. In July, the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) announced plans to lease approximately 300 to 600 passenger-carrying vehicles fully powered by electricity and held a forum to discuss its options with industry partners. According to a newly posted solicitation, NAVFAC is now seeking to commercially lease between 400 and 600 EVs for use at California installations included, but not limited to, the following: Naval Base San Diego, Naval Base Point Loma, Naval Base Coronado, NAF El Centro, Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach, Naval Base Ventura County, Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, Naval Air Station Lemoore, Naval Support Activity Monterey, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, MCB Camp Pendleton, Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twenty-Nine Palms. The document says any size business may submit a proposal, and the basic contract period will be for 12 months, with two 12-month options for a total maximum duration of 36 months.
