North Carolina DOT recommended and the legislature passed a law that says cyclists should stay in the right half of a lane. Despite much complaint from the cyling public about what a rotten idea that is and why it is bad, the law is out there now. How one legally maneuvers to a left hand turn lane is a mystery. I presume the cops will not enforce this when people are avoiding being doored.
They at least made it allowable for cars to cross the double yellow to allow decent clearance to bikes and specified a passing distance to the left. They also mad some rules about group ride (need a permit, and can't ride more than 2 abreast and to the right. Since I dislike group rides (a common cause of wrecks) I am unaffected.
