No, not really. The main issue is that it's a violation of the electrical
code to install that 3-pin 10-30 receptacle permanently in your house. All
new dryer receptacle installations since (IIRC) 1996 are required to use 4-
pin NEMA 14-30 receptacles, with the ground and neutral separated.

While obvioiusly no one is going to plug in a clothes dryer outdoors, on
another code level, the receptacle is not rated for the application. Indeed
it's not rated for ANY new installation. It's only allowed for replacement
of an existing worn out or damaged 10-30R.

Why not use one of the cords you got from work for your EVSE? Assuming the
EVSE is rated for connection to a 30 amp circuit, and doesn't need a
neutral, an L6-30 receptacle would be fine to install. Just make sure you
connect only the groundING (green or bare ground) conductor to its ground
terminal. You're not allowed to connect the groundED (white or grey
neutral) wire to it.

Also, equipment you connect to that L6-30 (or a 6-30 non locking) may not
attempt to derive 120v by using the groundING pin. That can put a hazardous
voltage on your building's ground system in case of a (double) failure.

Will anything horrible happen if you do install the 10-30 and use its
neutral pin as the ground? Probably not. However, as I see it, if you're
going to take the trouble to do the installation at all, you might as well
do it right and to code - especially since you have those nice L6-30 cords
anyway.

PS - I haven't had any problems with 240v GFI breakers, touch wood. Of
course they cost a lot more than the cheap Chinese-made 120v wall-recept
GFIs you get these days.
