A Dundee cab company is set to clock up a million electric miles and in the process it has saved a fortune. Dundee 203020 started out with 30 electric taxi cabs but now another 100 are on order after it has installed five 50kW Tri-Rapid chargers to make sure its all-electrtic fleet stays on the road. It is one of the top six electric taxi operators in the country that between them have travelled more than three million miles. That is equivalent to six journeys to the moon and back or 120 times around the world and if it had been done in a diesel fuelled cab it would have cost an estimated £350,000 in fuel and generated a whopping 899 tonnes of carbon would also have been generated. With average running costs of just two pence per mile, the three million miles in the LEAFs and e-NV200s cost around £60,000 – a massive saving of £290,000. And with zero emissions, they were also helping to improve air quality in the towns and cities where they operate. David Young of 203020 said: ““This time next year every vehicle we own will be 100 percent electric, and with that expansions come an increased use of the charge points. “Two of our Rapid chargers are already the busiest in the UK, and our original 30 EVs will very soon reach 1,000,000 miles, saving hundreds of tons of carbon emissions.” Dundee is currently vying with seven other cities for £20 million of funding to become the UK’s electric taxi capital.
