 - A couple in China have turned a defunct scooter into a dog powered trike

 - Pair from Yiwu, Zhejiang province, were spotted travelling on a busy
street

 - Owners say the dogs are happy and do not have trouble pulling the cart

A couple in east China's Zhejiang province have become famous after being
spotted travelling in a 'dog drawn carriage'.

The husband controls the direction of the vehicle while the carriage is
pulled by dogs, the People's Daily Online reports.

The pair from Yiwu say the dogs are happy and loyal and do not have any
trouble pulling the carriage.

According to reports, the idea for the inventive dog-powered trike came from
the husband who started having trouble walking after he retired.

He wore out his electric scooter and could not afford a new one.

So instead of saving up, he decided to turn it into a dog powered trike.

There are two seats on-board the vehicle, along with space for another dog.

Chinese web users have questioned whether the mode of transport is legal but
there has been no statement from the police on whether they are
investigating the case.

This isn't the first dog pulled machine in China.

In 2013, a man was filmed riding along at speed down a road in a sleigh
while being pulled by two dogs.
