There was also this oddity, the Yebbujana R2 by Power Plaza, a $50,000 EV that could put an end to range anxiety, with an almost 800km reach. The South Korean car’s peculiar design, high-tech dashboard or dual rear-vision video cameras also make this an intriguing car, but it’s the exposed electric motor and a big fat 81kWh Lithium-ion battery pack that make it truly unique. Okay, so storing your golf bag in the car might be a bit tricky, but it offers compelling performance according to its creators. The Yebbujana R2 electric roadster is a lightweight, compact convertible based on a one-piece (monocoque) carbon-fibre chassis weighing roughly 640kg. Its 80kW permanent magnet electric motor is connected to a five-speed manual gearbox, ensuring it rips from 0-100km/h in around 4.1 seconds in ‘dynamic’ mode and on to a top speed of around 200km/h. This compact two-seater sports car is clearly rapid but it also has of one of the world’s best all-electric driving distances. Power Plaza claims the vehicle will travel from Melbourne to Adelaide on a full charge – although that’s only possible if the car is driven at no more than 60km/h, which won’t make the truckies happy! The South Korean company plans to have the car publicly available in 2017 with prices starting at around €33,000, which is about $A50,000.
