The circuit is launching what it calls a "virtual championship" called the Race Off Pro Series. Ladies and gentlemen, start your thumbs. Formula E is working with Microsoft's Turn 10 Studios on a version of the Forza Motorsport 6 video game. The series will have four online rounds. The first one is part of a March 24 Rivals event in the Forza Motorsport 6 Xbox Live lobby as a preview ahead of "real" Formula E races in Long Beach, Paris, Berlin and London. That round, which takes place on a virtual version of the Long Beach course, runs through March 31, after which racers with the fastest 10 times through the virtual circuit advance. There's more to these races than getting the fastest time. Ultimately, gamers who advance through the first three rounds get an all-expenses paid trip to London to compete for the 15,000 euros ($17,000) in grand prizes in a July grand finale. Earlier this year, reports surfaced that Formula E was looking to boost its global popularity with races in the Middle East. Race organizers also said in January that they would hold off on boosting the cars' power output for next season. The cars, which produce about 268 horsepower each, were slated to be boosted to 335 hp for its third season, but a more gradual power increase will be phased in instead. -pr- Formula E launches breakthrough Race Off Pro Series UK|18 MAR 16 The fully-electric FIA Formula E Championship has launched its first ever virtual championship - Race Off Pro Series - to be held alongside its real-world season. The championship will comprise of at least four online rounds, which will serve as a preview to the on-track action ahead of the Formula E races in Long Beach, Paris, Berlin and London. With events attracting large audiences and millions more fans watching live streaming online, developing an eSports platform within motorsport is something that Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag sees as a golden opportunity not only for Formula E but for the future of motor racing as it seeks to embrace the digital age. The first event starts at 12pm GMT on March 24, when a Rivals event will open in the Forza Motorsport 6 Xbox Live lobby. Entrants will have to set their fastest lap around the Long Beach East circuit in an unmodified Formula E car. The time trial will close at 11.59pm GMT on March 31. The fastest 10 players across the globe will then be invited to compete in a live Pro Series final, which will be held on April 2 in a bespoke online lobby. The top-two from each Pro Series final will then be invited to London in an all-expenses paid trip, where they will race off against the successful finalists from all the other events to contest the inaugural Race Off Pro Championship, and win a share of the €15,000 prize fund and other amazing prizes.
