Pre-production is underway for the all-electric vehicle that will make affordable efficiency an everyday reality. The Bolt EV will be available in late 2016. ] Workers at General Motors' Orion assembly plant have begun work on pre-production versions of the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle. Pre-production vehicles are not to be sold. They are designed to train workers in the new tools, automation and logistics processes required for launching a new model. Production of market-ready cars will begin in the fourth-quarter of 2016 with sales to begin after that. The car will have a range of more than 200 miles when its battery pack is fully charged. DETROIT FREE PRESS Chevy’s Bolt EV designed with Lyft in mind “We’re at another critical and important point in the development of the Bolt EV,” said Josh Tavel, chief engineer for the Bolt. “We’ve moved from working in math and building cars by hand to building Bolt EV’s on the line." From a performance perspective, the Bolt can accelerate from 0 to 60 m.p.h. in just under 7 seconds, slightly better than about 8 seconds for the Volt plug-in extended-range hybrid.
