Duh, almost any car requires a manual action to engage parking brake, even as simple as moving the gear selector back to P and still plenty people forget that, causing very many "runaway" vehicles on daily basis. I don't see how the Prius is different, only because its parking brake is operated electrically instead of mechanically?
