THINKING AHEAD: Dr Vas Srinivasan with his Model S Telsa electric car. He
has ordered two new mid range Telsa vehicles which won’t be delivered until
2019
]

KAWANA orthodontist Vas Srinivasan loves his Tesla S luxury electric vehicle
so much he has placed orders for two of the mid range Tesla 3s for his
staff.

However, he warns that by the time they are shipped in 2019 he may be
wanting one of them for family use.

Mr Srinivasan is one of 260,000 people globally who have placed orders for
the cheaper version of the revolutionary vehicle which will retail for
around [AUD]$50,000 in Australia. The commitment equates to $10 billion in
revenue and has been described as Tesla's iPhone moment.

Tesla S owners were given priority to order the cheaper model and six or
seven of the 25 Sunshine Coast owners of the vehicle have to date taken the
opportunity to do so.

Mr Srinivasan said he simply could not ignore the value the new vehicles
represent. They come standard as a five-seater with air-conditioning,
satellite communication systems, autopilot software and, incredibly, free
charging for the life of the vehicle.

The orthodontist uses autopilot on frequent trips to one of the Invisible
Orthodontist practices he owns in Hervey Bay and to Brisbane, but says he
has found it most useful in stop-start, bumper-to-bumper traffic when he
simply lets the vehicle take over and sits back and relaxes.

Mr Srinivasan sees the $3000 he outlaid as an investment in the cause of
carbon neutrality and a show of support for Tesla founder Elon Musk who has
promised another "wow" factor option is yet to be announced for the base
model.

Delivery of the entry level Tesla is expected to start in November or
December of next year going first to the US west coast, then the east coast,
Europe and China before right-hand drive roll out starts in London, Hong
Kong, Japan and then Australia.

Tesla aims to double its global network of supercharger centres in the next
year with Brisbane next in line following Sydney and Melbourne to receive a
service centre for the vehicle.

The company does not have a dealership network with the vehicle available
through online purchase but has a series of Tesla shops that provide owners
with assistance on the sophisticated vehicle's use.

Mr Srinivasan is frustrated the Australian Government is not doing enough to
provide incentives for people to shift to clean solar power.

He believes the amount paid for excess power people produced from home solar
systems is insufficient.

The game changer, he says, will be improved home battery storage systems
technology, the development of which will be bolstered by Tesla's success.
