But he hopes to be driving a Tesla Model 3 when they are available to consumers next year. http://i.cbc.ca/1.3530547.1460400947!/fileImage/httpImage/image.jpg_gen/derivatives/original_620/sean-hart-filling-up-his-nissan-leaf.jpg Sean Hart is seen filling up his Nissan Leaf http://i.cbc.ca/1.3530575.1460401650!/fileImage/httpImage/image.jpg_gen/derivatives/original_620/tesla-supercharger-station-in-comber.jpg Tesla Supercharger station in Comber, Ont. (Jonathan Pinto/CBC) ] Sean Hart ready to drive newest Tesla model, but he's already behind the wheel of an electric car Sean Hart is already driving one electric car, but he also has his eyes on another — the Tesla Model 3. The Belle River, Ont., resident has put down $1,000, to pre-order the new Tesla car that won't even go on sale until late next year ... He's not the only person who is thinking ahead. Tesla Motors reported last week that more than 325,000 people have done the same thing. For Hart, the allure of the new Tesla model is rooted in the trust he has in the Tesla brand. He believes the California automaker has proven that electric cars can be "sexy" and "cool". 'Everyone seems to like my car' Hart, the chairman of the Windsor-Essex Electric Vehicle Association, doesn't need to be convinced about the merits of electric cars. He's been driving a Nissan Leaf for several years. As an early adopter, Hart initially faced some ribbing from friends and family about his choice to embrace the electric-car lifestyle. Tesla Lower Priced Car ... Hart told CBC Radio's Windsor Morning that some people told him he was "crazy" when they first learned he was going to be driving an electric vehicle. Now, Hart said "everyone seems to like my car." But he admits his driving day involves steps that other motorists don't have to deal with. "I do have to plan my routes carefully," Hart said, though the car he is currently driving has enough range to get him to where he needs in his day-to-day life. Hart notes that the forthcoming Tesla Model 3 is supposed to have a range of nearly 350 kilometres on a single charge. That, he believes is more than enough for him to get around Essex County comfortably, when driving. Unlike people who head to the pumps to fill up their car, Hart simply has to remember to plug in his vehicle at the end of the day. And while that has a cost, he estimates that cost is half or less than what he would be spending at a gas station. Hart points to charging stations that Tesla has been building around North America — including one in Comber — where its customers can charge their vehicles for free. It's part of a wider trend whereby there is an improving web of infrastructure for people driving electric vehicles. Tesla has been building clusters of so-called Superchargers across North America, which allow owners to charge their vehicles quickly ...
