Coming soon to NZ: Renault's electric Kangoo ZE van.
]

Renault is to unveil a new electric vehicle in Wellington on Friday - the
Zoe five-door hatch, which last year was the top-selling all-electric
vehicle in Europe.

Zoe will be the first of three Renault electric vehicles to go on sale in
New Zealand this year. The others will be the Kangoo ZE van, and the Twizy
two-seater city car.

Renault New Zealand is not releasing any marketing details about the Kangoo
or the Twizy, preferring instead to concentrate on the Zoe which will be on
display as part of the Leading The Charge promotional tour of electric
vehicles.

Operations and sales co-ordinator Sal Marti said the car will go on sale
from July, and will carry a retail price of $65,208 plus GST. It will carry
a three year/100,000 km warranty, and the electric drivetrain and traction
battery will have a five-year warranty.

"The Zoe heralds the start of a new era for Renault in New Zealand, one in
which electric mobility becomes available for everyone," a company press
release says.

Zoe, which is built on the platform of the Clio hatch, is fitted with
Renault's Range OptimiZEr system which boosts the vehicle range by almost 25
per cent. The car's range is 250 km, and in typical electric car fashion
the around-town acceleration is brisk thanks to the fact its 220 newton
metres of peak torque is available from just 250 rpm.

The release confirms that, since in New Zealand it is possible to charge an
electric vehicle with "clean" electricity, the company is considering a
project that will achieve this through 100 per cent renewable energy where
possible.

Marti said the Zoe will not be driven during its time on display in
Wellington.

"But it will be open so people can sit in it or look inside. The main thing
is that we are able to get the vehicles, and they will go on sale here."
