I have news items on this I will post later after I've gathered more details (I like to get a better picture of the news item before I post for the archive). Since I am posting this first (to mix it up, I am doing this in reverse), because I wanted the evdl discussions to bring some clarity (pun intended) to what is going on.
For those hot on this topic and can't wait, see http://www.dogpile.com/info.dogpl.cloud.other/search/news?fcoid=417&fcop=topnav&fpid=27&q=Clarity+electric&ql= Like many, when I hear(read) the words Honda Clarity it immediately brings to mind their much touted fcv (*fcv discussions are OT on the evdl). But it seems HMC is going to implement the rumors(2010) I have read, about going to use one vehicle platform for three different drivetrains: EV, pih, fcv, see http://automobiles.honda.com/clarity#technology My first thought is, like GM's dumb naming (Bolt, when the public already knows their Volt), Honda's (hard-core) promotion of their Clarity fcv, and now two other Clarity variants using the same naming, is also only going to cause public confusion. This smelled so bad that I wondered is it bad(inept) marketing, or is it really that Honda killed a good EV design (Fit) just to muddy the waters with naming confusion? (what are HMC's real motives?) http://search.lycos.com/web/?q=what+was+wrong+with+the+honda+fit+EV&keyvol=00bf361c49522b48c591 Honda can't be so inane that they are feeling their way along this path (or are they? ... a fcv no one wants, so now they are also implementing using the platform for other marketing ...). Some might note Clarity's vehicle body type looks like a Tesla clone. Why would HMC produce a sedan(clone) of something that already has the market sewn up? Not everyone wants or needs a sedan. Or is it that this vehicle type is more aerodynamic and cost-efficient to produce? Actually, Clarity's mock-up prototype (looking like straight from the model shop) was way back in 1999 (maybe Tesla took some pointers from HMC?) Those anxious for a Clarity EV will have to wait. It seems since it took from 1999 to 2014 for them to lease their fcv, the public should be grateful it will not be another 15, but a year+ before they can lease a Clarity EV (see links below) ...
