We’ve already seen the brute power an EV can develop, but the guys behind the “Electric Fox” dragster took it up a notch. Built in Latvia, this electrical powerhouse – made to resemble a Top Fuel variant – was purposefully created to be the fastest machine of its kind. Currently, its target is to go faster than 200mph (321 km/h) and cross the quarter mile on the drag strip in less than 7 seconds. It isn’t quite there yet, but its latest 400-meter dash registered a new record for European electric dragsters, as the vehicle managed to cross the finish line at Tierp Arena, Sweden, in 7.631 seconds at a speed of 171.02mph (275 km/h), just 0.357 seconds off the current electric world record. According to Insideevs, the result is number 3 in the NEDRA overall standing and first at its DR/A5 class. In order to achieve these mind boggling figures, the car uses six electric motors and a bespoke 800 V lithium ion battery pack. The powertrain generates 1020 kW and 2160 Nm torque. That’s 1,367hp and 1593 lb-ft of torque; still far from a Top Fuel dragster, which are known to generate the force of a small earthquake when they go off the line, but impressive nonetheless, leaving room for improvement in the future.
