This is Heidi, Don's niece.
My parents and I are in the process of trying to get in touch with Don's
friends. He died suddenly and unexpectedly on Monday, June 20, 2016. He
was diagnosed with stage 3 multiple myeloma cancer, just 18 days before.
Don's obituary is scheduled to run in the Press Democrat tomorrow and
Sunday, and will be available to view online starting tomorrow. Don's
memorial is scheduled Wednesday, July 6, from 3-7pm at the Grange Hall
in Sebastopol. The reception after memorial will be a potluck. Mary
Delap, from the Sonoma County Folk Society has offered to coordinate the
potluck. She said if friends want to participate in the potluck, her
organization will be there to collect the food and set it up.
We have a structure that we're working on for July 6. Tentatively:
3-4:15pm memorial - family and friends will prepare some words to share,
and there will be open floor if some friends want to share spontaneously
too.
4:15-6:15pm - reception including live folk music from various friends,
potluck, mingling/sharing memories in small groups
6:15-7pm - contra dancing
If you know others who may like to attend Don's memorial, please share
this information with them. I've been checking in with family to start
thinking about who wants to talk, and what they want to say. If you or
other friends would like to say a few words, please let me know so that
we can include them in the program. Also we are working on gathering
photos and other items representative to display at the service. We are
all still trying to get over the shock of losing Don and figure out what
all needs to be done to let friends know and plan Don's memorial. We
appreciate all the friends offering help. If you have any questions let
