They don't even have anything about pulling the cord all the way out before
plugging in. I only pulled out enough for my Soul EV so it wouldn't be a
trip hazard. Before my flight back to Portland, OR, I instructed the car to
start charging. When I arrived it had been charging for 2-3 hours. The cord
outside the reel was barely warmer than ambient but the portion of the cord
still in the pedestal on the reel was significantly warmer. I'm not sure
what the temperature rating of the cord was but it did concern me a little.
I think they are 16A stations based on the time to charge given by the EV
display (I wish it had a menu displaying all the technical info).

The for the reel in my Gizmo I always pull the cord out all the way before
charging.

My 40A 40ft JLong extension cord is less than 18 lbs. Besides, with a Curb
Weight of 3,289 lbs and a Gross Weight of 4,321 lbs you will not be able to
detect a range penalty especially considering it is less than 0.55% the
weight of the car. That 18lbs at 60mph is only 2873J of KE or 0.8Wh of
energy, over half of which can be captured back with regenerative braking.
Conservatively my Soul EV+ consumes 285Wh/mi. Even if I didn't use
regenerative braking I'd have to accelerate to 60mph over 356 times to use
up 1 mile of range, with regen it is easily double that number.

The extra weight argument is merely academic. Especially considering that
the 120V EVSE included with the vehicle could use the same cord. The only
extra weight being the extra copper to handle the OBC max charge rate, the
inlet on the 120V EVSE box and the extra handle on the extension cord. The
weight difference is going to be only a couple of kg or less.

As for convenience, those who charge at home likely will have an EVSE with
cord installed and only would need to use the charge cord when at a public
station.
