Not to send this too far off topic, but it depends on WHOSE ear.  It's an 
individual matter.  For example, I don't consider myself a "golden-ear," but 
I seem to be unusually sensitive to data compression artifacts in audio.  I 
can definitely hear the difference.  

That said, in a moving car, the noise masks a lot of the difference -- 
though probably less in an EV with no enginre noise.
