Hello Bruce,

My battery compartment is insulated to about 15 R Factor. The battery box is
made out of 1/4 inch fiberglass that is insulated with 1/4 inch foam pad that
is use for vinyl tops. Glue on with foam glue covering the entire box plus
the top hinge cover.

Also the pickup bed is also cover with this foam pad. The entire bed and box
is cover with a foam back marine carpet that is light resistance. Addition
three layers of foam is below the battery box and cover with the marine carpet.
This allows the battery box to slide in very easy.

Do not have to add any heating to the batteries. I do heat the cab by using
both a 7kw inverter that is power by a rotating inverter-alternator that is use
in ambulances for providing both 13.5-16 volts DC and

110 VDC. The 110 VDC is then inverted to 120 VAC 60 cycle at 5kw.

There is a transfer switch on the dash that either selects the on board 120 VAC
while the EV is running or from commercial power that comes from the same power
cable that charges the battery. This commercial power comes on about 30
minutes before I leave with the EV. This heats the passenger compartment to
80 degrees.

Most of the time, I do not have to use the on board heating system for the
first 5 miles of driving. There are two types of heating devices. One is made
by a 30 inch long by 3 inch diameter copper pipe that has a 1000 watt water
heater element screw into it. I had a radiator shop solder a fill cap into it.
and two outlets that connects to a water pump that circulates to the existing
heater core. This is normally use for defrosting the windshield. This heater
system also uses a pressure cap and expansion tank like ICE uses.

Roland

I found a-whole-lotta-links (below) but I think you ought to tell us more,
like what chemistry you are heating, what size cells, what EV is it in, why
you need it:
-want warm pack before you drive out of the garage
-want to warm the park an hour before you leave work where there is not
source of power
-need emergency pack heat on extremely cold days (goose pack for mo' juice)
+more(?)

In the links below people have products out there for you to throw your
money at. Everything from a $370 ice heater (likely 120VAC power from a
garage outlet), to gate opener battery warmers, cheapo 5-12V smallish
heating pads, chemical reaction Toe Warmers (good for emergency use),
electric blankets, +more:
