You mean the Electrovair? GM built at least two models; the first based on a 1964 Corvair, and the second one on a 1996 Corvair.

It is amazing how similar they were to the 1997 GM EV-1! Both were the same size car, same weight, same 100hp 3-phase AC induction motor and inverter, same direct drive. Even the range, acceleration, and top speeds were similar.

Last I knew, one of the 1996 Electrovairs was in a museum in VA.

Why did GM stop development? In 1967 (and again in 2000) there was a sudden shift to hydrogen fuel cells as the new "fuel of the future".
