As part of the German automaker’s development program, a Mission E test mule was spotted on the Nürburgring race track. Electric vehicles can release an insane amount of power rather quickly, which can result in extremely quick acceleration, but it can be difficult to maintain high power for long periods of time. The best example is Tesla’s performance Model S, which is among the quickest cars in the world, but the powertrain overheats if you maintain a high power output for a long period of time, for example, driving at high speeds on the Autobahn or doing a few laps on the race track. Both those applications are quite popular with many Porsche owners and the company wants them to still be able to do it with their first all-electric vehicle. Earlier this month, Stefan Weckbach, Head of Battery-Electric Vehicles at Porsche, said that the Mission E will be able to beat Tesla’s vehicles on that front.
