What Dave says is true about the coupler needing a little bit of give to
compensate for out of roundness and the tug back and forth on the
drivetrain. I have had very good luck using the Lovejoy coupler. My first
one was the L 90 model for a light car and the L 110 for heavy stuff. I
weld the clutch disc hub in one 1/2 and the other half I get at an inch and
an eighth so it goes so it goes right on the motor. The problem with this
setup is it does take up a bit of room and makes the adapter plate a few
inches thick. I've seen people take a gear with the inch and 1/8 shaft and
Bolt the clutch disc to the gear this keeps the splines and the spring
action and is not quite so thick. With the love joy coupler setup you have
to have some way to keep the Hub that's on the transmission from sliding on
the spline shaft and coming unconnected. I usually do this by putting a
plug in the end of the Lovejoy hub so that just the pilot bearing shaft
sticks out. Steve clunn www.Greenshedconventions.com
