But, for buyers in Canada, now is the time to act. According to a report from Inside EVs published Tuesday, Hyundai Canada has opened pre-orders for the electric crossover. Buyers will be required to place a $1,000 deposit to secure their Kona Electric when it arrives later this year. One individual said he’d already placed his pre-order for the Kona Electric and the particular dealership said Canadian pricing will come in either August or September. Hyundai has not confirmed the Kona Electric for sale in the U.S., but it’s expected the electric car will arrive stateside in the second half of 2018. The Kona Electric debuted last February with an estimated 292-mile range with a 64-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack based on Europe’s Worldwide Harmonized Light-duty Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP). EPA ratings should closely mirror the 292-mile estimate. Hyundai also plans to sell a base Kona Electric with a smaller battery pack (39.2-kilowatt hours) good for an estimated 186 miles.
