Mayor Tweedy had just returned from taking the 3,600 pound car for a test drive on the highway. The front compartment is filled with sets of rechargeable batteries, as is the normal trunk space. The car would travel at highway speeds up to 60 mph. Powered by a 14 horsepower engine, it would accelerate from zero to 40 mph in about 10 seconds. The car is one of 12 similar prototypes that was being tested throughout the world. It used 20 six-volt batteries which needed recharging after 70-120 miles of driving.
