The first EV from the Renault-Nissan Group in India will be the Nissan Leaf
electric vehicle, safely expect a stratospheric price tag

The Renault-Nissan group recently showcased the globally successful Leaf EV
at the MOVE: The Global Mobility Summit in New Delhi. The latest development
follows a confirmation by Thomas Kuehl, President, Nissan India, of the Leaf
being India-bound. The Nissan Leaf Electric will be launched in India in
early 2019. Being a CBU, safely expect it to cost in tune of Rs 50 lakh.

The Nissan Leaf Electric will be a halo product from the Indian subsidiary
of the Japanese automaker. While the company doesn’t hope for high volumes,
we feel that the Leaf makes for an interesting showcase of the company’s
prowess with producing world-class premium electric cars.

The latest generation Nissan Leaf electric car is much more modern than its
earlier iteration. It looks better, has a more premium cabin with a longer
list of features, and even offers a much higher driving range. The highlight
of the car list is the e-Pedal system, which lets you drive the car using
energy tapped through regenerative braking to accelerate and deaccelerate
the vehicle.

Other important features on offer include Intelligent Around View Monitor,
Lane Departure Warning, Intelligent Emergency Braking, ProPILOT and
single-lane autonomous driving tech, Intelligent Lane Intervention, Traffic
Sign Recognition, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Blind Spot Warning among
others.

India-Bound Nissan Leaf Revealed 3 The Nissan Leaf electric vehicle will be
available in two battery options. It’s powered by a 147 horsepower-320 Nm
electric motor that gets its juice from a 40 kWh lithium-ion battery. As per
the EPA estimated, the latest generation Leaf has a range of 150 miles (242
km) in the US. In Europe, it’s rated to have a driving range of 235 miles
(378 km).

It takes 16 hours to charge the battery using a 3 kW plug and 8 hours
through a 6 kW socket. There’s also a quick charging facility that can
charge the battery pack to 80 per cent in just 40 minutes.
