Adoption of electric cars moves at low speed in Mexico
Sep. 19 2018 NTX/MPR/JKM/AUTOS17/JCG

Mexico, Sep. 19 (Notimex).- Electric vehicles can be a benefit for the
environment, having zero emissions of greenhouse gases or any other
contaminating particle, which prevents contributing to climate change.

The car sales platform Carmatch.mx explained in a statement that these cars
are gaining popularity worldwide, although in Mexico their adoption is
proceeding at a slow pace, in terms of using transport with clean
technologies.

According to the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA, for
its acronym in Spanish), of the more than 114 thousand units that were
marketed during May of this year, only 4668 were hybrid and 18 were electric
cars.

In addition, the options to buy these models are scarce, in addition to the
costs may be higher compared to traditional units, and the lack of
infrastructure to facilitate their adoption.

In that sense, the platform says that some of the options that exist in are
the Zacua M2, self designed and produced by Mexicans, with a PMSM electric
motor, a battery with a life of three thousand cycles (eight years), a speed
of 95 kilometers per hour (km / hr), with a list price of 569 thousand
pesos.
While the Renault Twizy provides a unique energy solution for city life,
since it is charged in just 3.5 hours using a domestic power point with an
adapter, and has a driving range of 100 km in urban cycle, with a price of
319 thousand 300 pesos.
Another of the electric vehicles is the Nissan Leaf, which has great
acceptance in Mexico, and has a lithium-ion battery that provides a range of
200 km, with a price of 499 thousand 900 pesos.

While the Chevrolet Bolt EV has a function to reduce the speed from the
steering wheel, which avoids losing energy when pressing the brake pedal and
helps conserve electricity for longer trips, and can be purchased in 750
thousand pesos.
Carmatch also added Tesla Model 3to the list, of 35 thousand dollars with
previous order; as well as the S model, with a cost of one million 636
thousand pesos, while the X model, an all-terrain sports car, is worth one
million 774 thousand pesos.

The BMW i3 is the first vehicle designed in a sustainable way from its
development to manufacturing, with an initial investment cost of 889
thousand 900 pesos.

Finally, it pointed out that the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE, for
its acronym in Spanish) declared that 60 million pesos will be invested to
install power stations in 2018, and in Mexico there are approximately 1,500
of these charging points, although it is estimated that this year will close
with 100 more power stations.

Harley-Davidson Makes Even Deeper Commitment to Electric Motorcycles
Sep 17, 2018 A new R&D facility dedicated solely to electric vehicles
signals that the motorcycle company is serious. There's nothing to suggest
buyers will turn to Harley-Davidson for their electric vehicle needs when
they're already being serviced by existing manufacturers ...
