Sounds technically feasible, but limited in utility. For one thing, I don't think that the in most cases it would be feasible for the panels to expand beyond the vehicle's footprint. That would disrupt other parked vehicles and get in the way of pedestrians. I can see the disputes arising when one vehicle parks and deploys its panels, which then shade another vehicle's! The other problem is the potential for accidental or deliberate (vandalism) damage. I don't see something like this ever becoming mainstream, but it has potential.
