Earlier this year, the Fremont Police Department announced that it’s
converting a Tesla Model S to a patrol vehicle [

] and now you can see the electric car going through an operation training
run.

Last year, they bought a used 2014 TESLA Model S 85 for $61,478.50
(including taxes and fees) to replace a 2007 Dodge Charger that was being
retired in their fleet.

Their goal is to turn it into a police patrol car and see if the electric
car fits the needs of a patrol vehicle and cut costs with gas savings.

“Now the Fremont Police Department has brought the Tesla patrol car to
the Alameda County Fairgrounds this week as part of the department’s annual
emergency vehicle operations training.”

Officers are testing their driving skills in the all-electric vehicle for
the first time and NBC 4 caught one of the training runs in the Model S on
video:

They didn’t buy the version of the Model S with the highest performance, but
even the base version fits the requirements of a patrol vehicle.

Fremont gave the police department the goal of testing an electric vehicle
as a patrol car and after looking at the market, they determined that only
Tesla’s vehicles fit the requirements.

They said at the time:

“The Tesla is the only electric vehicle that met specifications for
size, performance, battery range, and safety, all required for a fully
deployable patrol vehicle. Tesla electric vehicles are manufactured locally
in Fremont.”

As we previously stated, Tesla vehicles are becoming strangely popular with
police departments all over the world.

In the US, the Los Angeles Police Department and the Denver Police
Department are both using Model S sedans as part of their fleets.

In Europe, Scotland Yard also says that it’s considering the vehicle [

] and the Luxembourg Police converted two Model S sedans to patrol cars [

].

The Ontario Police also recently received a brand new Model X, which they
also converted to a police vehicle.

Last year, we also reported on a Tesla Model S becoming a sneaky undercover
police car [
