We previously reported on International Armoring Corporation (IAC) — one of the first companies to have created a bulletproof Tesla vehicle. Last year, they added a full lightweight synthetic fiber laminate armor, called Armormax, and ballistic glass to a Model S P100D in order to create a fully bulletproof car [ https://electrek.co/2018/01/12/tesla-first-bulletproof/ ] for a client . That specific project aimed at protecting against high powered rifle and at the time, IAC CEO Mark Burton told us that it cost $72,500 and added about 550 lbs to the Model S. Now, they have done another Model S, which they equipped to protect against smaller caliber bullets. Last week, they invited Youtuber Jerry Rig Everything to test the bulletproof Model S by shotting it: “The latest Armormax Tesla is equipped to handle most armed threats. This armored Tesla Model S is equipped with complete passenger cabin protection. The front windows remain operable, even though driving with them down is not recommended. Armormax offered Jerry Rig Everything to shoot at, scratch and anything else he wanted to do that would show the capabilities of the vehicle. The vehicle glass would later be replaced before delivery to the end user.” They released the following video about the vehicle: Armormax claims that the added bulletproof material doesn’t significantly affect the range nor performance of the Tesla vehicle. Apparently, Tesla vehicles are becoming somewhat popular as armored cars. Centur has also done several Model S vehicles before and we reported on them making one of the first bulletproof Model X vehicles [ https://electrek.co/2018/12/12/tesla-model-x-armoured-vehicle/ ]. Both companies claim to have several Tesla owners having ordered their bulletproof treatment. Musk has had enough of people criticizing Tesla. Targeting the Wall Street Journal, the Tesla boss fired a shot across the bow with an amusing “rebranding” campaign he is starting on Twitter, labeling the publication and columnist Holman Jenkins as sock puppets for “big-oil” ...
