According to a release, the two companies are hoping to increase the use of EVs in ride-sharing and grow awareness of the benefits of EVs. The companies will give a $500 bonus to drivers who sign up to drive with Lyft. "This program is a unique opportunity for Madison-area residents to ride in an EV and experience what they have to offer," said Debbie Branson, MGE manager of electrification. "With EVs, there are no oil changes or trips to the gas station. They cost less to fuel and maintain than gas-powered vehicles, and they are fun to drive." Lyft is hoping to operate as a carbon-neutral company, so promoting EV rides is part of that pledge. "We can lower carbon emissions and make Madison a greener city by providing Madisonians with a viable transportation alternative to individual car ownership," said JP Biondi, Lyft Wisconsin general manager. "We hope this partnership will encourage more Madison EV owners to drive with us and expand the environmental benefits of EVs across the city." EV drivers with MGE are also eligible to receive 50% off the cost of charging at MGE's more than 30 wind-powered public charging stations.
