BMS for the spec you want are so cheap these days that I would use them.
Kitty has 15 48v packs all running in parallel with each pack having its
own BMS. Each cell is double fused (tesla style) and comes from recycled
laptop batteries. This system has now been running for 18 months and
5000 miles. A bit of an over kill probably but when dealing with these
cells, better safer than sorry.
