The car was first unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show in 2018, it is expected to be mass production in Sep. 2019. AIWAYS U5 production version basically continues the design of the previous concept car, using the “smart technology” concept, the appearance is very future technology, using a grille-less front face that is popular in current pure electric vehicle style, the headlights use full LED light source, official says it is intelligent light. Size of AIWAYS U5 4680/1865mm/1700mm and a wheelbase of 2800mm. For the interior, AIWAYS U5 adopts the “mobile home” design concept, adopting the advanced color matching and straight lines of the modern home. AIWAYS U5 is equipped with many technical configurations, including AQIS air purification, ASMR, ambient lights, AI-Power battery packs, and automatic wireless charging. In addition, the new car has a separate swing door, welcome seat, the car also has a hidden air outlet and defroster vent, hot and cold cup holder and refrigerator. AIWAYS U5 supports autopilot function that adapts to different scenes and goes beyond the L2 level. With the Mobileye Q4 chip, official says the performance is 10 times faster than the Q3 used in mainstream models. There are total 22 sensors on the vehicle to support driving preferences of different travel scenarios. AIWAYS U5 also features a tri-fold display instrument panel which is designed special for driver, the floating 12.3-inch infotainment display as well as the panoramic sunroof for front and rear passengers to enhance travel comfort. In addition, it also supports TJA (Automatic Queuing during traffic jams), HWA (Automated Highway Driving Assistance), All-situation autonomous parking. In the power section, AIWAYS U5 is equipped with a lithium battery pack, capacity of battery is 65kW, energy density of the battery pack reaches 181wh/kg (This is updated data from AIWAYS Chinese website. Its English website still says capacity of 63kW, energy density of 170 wh/kg), and the cruising range under the NEDC condition is 503km (This is updated data from AIWAYS official Chinese website, in English website it still says 460km), plus the world’s first AI battery pack (actually it is an extended battery pack) that increases range by more than 120km, Combined electric-only range of over 623 km (This is updated data from AIWAYS official Chinese website, it claimed 100km for its AI battery pack, so total is 560km in English website) The max. power is 140kW, max. torque is 315N.m, official says it takes 27min charging up from 30% to 80% in fast charging mode. The curb weight is 1.75 tons, official says it is the lightest vehicle comparing the same segment.
