Following its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show earlier this month, the new Hyundai Veloster N ETCR will participate in the ETCR racing series that will launch next year, where it’ll go against models like the Cupra e-Racer. The new Hyundai Veloster N ETCR features a mid-mounted electric powertrain that sends its power over to the rear wheels, with the batteries mounted within the floor. The electric race car’s chassis is radically different than any other of the company’s previous projects. Hyundai has gained some invaluable expertise with the championship-winning i30 N TCR and Veloster N TCR and now aims to have a strong contender ready for the inaugural ETCR racing series. The test in Hungary was just the start of Hyundai’s extensive development program for the coming months. The company’s first electric race car will lay the foundations for Hyundai’s future high-performance electric production cars. “We have shown with the i30 N TCR and Veloster N TCR that we can produce a very strong Touring Car, but now we have a lot to learn about this new package before the racing starts in 2020,” said Andrea Adamo, Hyundai Motorsport Team Director. “The next few months will be very busy – we essentially have two challenges; we have to develop the chassis, but also learn to use the power from the batteries and motors effectively. However, with the testing schedule ahead I am confident that our engineers will be able to produce another race winning car,” Adamo added.
