Think hard whether it's worth having L3 for a Leaf. You got a 2011 model, which is what I have.

After 8 years, I get about 30-40 miles range in winter and I simply don't try to go very far with it. Yet, that 30-40 miles (up to 50-60 in summer) is plenty for everything we do in the city.

I did take it out of range a couple months ago and used L3. However, the BMS (or some part of the onboard system) decided that the battery can no longer take high charge current. It dropped the charge rate to about 10kW, which is still better than L2 but not very rapid.

The Leaf is (was) a great car for early adopters. It works fine and handles reasonably well. But, for me, it's not worth trying to make it into a longer range vehicle.

A lot. The L3 system is CHAdeMO. You need the inlet plug, the high
current wiring, probably the plastic shroud it all goes in, and the
charger it connects to. You can probably grab all of that out of a
wrecked vehicle (hopefully a rear end or side collision) but I still
don't know how much the car is going to like it. CHAdeMO requires CAN
communication to the EVSE so if the car isn't happy then nothing will
happen.
